Shoes For Thought

The TWOOBS Journey

When we started TWOOBS, we did so because we were passionate about creating a line of footwear that encompassed all the issues dearest to us. Only a few years ago, launching a vegan footwear brand held its own obstacles and prejudices, but the importance of animal welfare was, and still is, too great to ignore. We began a journey to combine our love of fashion and our love for animals into a product we hoped could become a compass for others. As two young women, building a business from the ground up continues to hold numerous barriers. Through both TWOOBS and our How Two Live brand, we continuously strive to break down these barriers for all women and continue to  encourage and support female entrepreneurs. What we didn't count on 5 years ago, was the realisation that it wasn't good enough for us to fight for these issues if along the way, we were contributing to irreparable waste along the supply chain. Throughout this TWOOBS journey, we've been given a rare view into the ins and outs of fashion production, consumption and it's waste. It's funny to call this a rare insight, when we all wear clothes, buy clothes and we eventually all throw them away. While we're not perfect and we still have so much to learn, this is our promise that we are 100% committed to offering you and our entire TWOOBS team, a brand that is constantly adapting and improving to fashionable shoes at the fore front of sustainability and circularity.

As a team, we’re super proud of our commitment to operate a more sustainable business but there is always more to be done. That’s why we’ve put together 4 key goals to guide us as a team and as individuals to make informed decisions and to do business with purpose.

1. Be Conscious

In everything we do, we aim to make conscious and informed decisions. We understand we won’t be perfect eco warriors all day, every day, but by being conscious and aware of our actions and beliefs, we will make everyday decisions that are better for the environment and for people.

“What you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” - Jane Goodall (Ethologist & Conservationist)

2. Continue to Learn

Despite our in-depth knowledge on many things; dogs, fashion, great Melbourne cafes... we understand that sustainability is an ever expanding area. We aim to commit ourselves to constantly adapt and deepen our knowledge of sustainability. To continue to learn and be open to new ideas and concepts.

“If you don’t understand, ask questions. If you’re uncomfortable about asking questions, say you are uncomfortable about asking questions and then ask anyway.”  - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Author)

3. Strive to Educate

Just like sharing your latest great restaurant find with your friends, we believe it’s important to share what we know and what we learn. We aim to educate and share our knowledge on sustainability, so that everyone can be informed and make conscious decisions in their lives. Sustainability affects everyone, therefore everyone has a responsibility to share and to learn.

“When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.” - Malala Yousafzai (Activist)

4. Every day is an opportunity

Every day is a new opportunity to make a difference in the world and it’s an opportunity we will strive not to miss. Each day we make thousands of decisions, and each one should be seen as an opportunity to do good and make a positive impact in the world.

“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.” - Robert Swan (Environmentalist & Polar Explorer)
